Sophie 2.0

What is it?

Sophie is a new way to interact with text, audio and video. Sophie creates “books” that contain text, images, sounds and videos into a single, new, multimedia format.  Sophie is open-source software and free for you to use.

Key features
  • Allows users to create complex multimedia documents without highly specialized or technical traning.
  • Easily create animation with the frame-based timeline.
  • Import, embed and export “.pdf” files.
  • Easy access to read Sophie books in a browser without downloading a separate application with Sophie Reader.
  • Embed browser windows into book pages.
  • Easily construct discussion spaces within a book with comment frames.
How does it work?

Sophie collects all of your media into one place where the user combines all of the material into a single “book”.  Each of the artifacts (image, recording, video, text) are insterted in what Sophie calls “frames”.  The artifacts can be manipulated and edited for size, position and along a timeline.  The ability to manipulate artifacts along the timeline enable the user to create animations, showing different artifacts at different times along the timeline.

Things to consider

As open-source software Sophie is in development.  Some iterations of the software may not have full functionality or may contain bugs.

Uses as an Instructional Technology

Sophie users can create new innovative multimedia presentations.
