Getting Started with Mapping and Timelines

Maps and timelines can be useful tools and concepts in helping students approach concepts of space, place, time, and storytelling. This workshop’s goal is to provide a no barrier introduction to mapping and timelines in the classroom.

Timeline JS

“TimelineJS is an open-source tool that enables anyone to build visually rich, interactive timelines. Beginners can create a timeline using nothing more than a Google spreadsheet… Experts can use their JSON skills to create custom installations, while keeping TimelineJS’s core functionality.”- KnightLab Timeline JS homepage

Clio

Developed by Marshall University, Clio is an educational website and mobile app that serves as a guide to historical and cultural sites around the United States. Clio was built by scholars with the intent to be utilized in public applications. Each Clio entry allows users to learn about historical events, people, and more through interactive media and guided information.

With a user-friendly interface, Clio allows you to easily track and edit entries from multiple authors.
