Audacity workshop

Register for the event

Audacity is an easy-to-use, open source audio editing software program that is available as a free download. Versions are available for desktop computers that run the Mac, Windows and Linux operating systems. Audacity has a variety of features that can meet the needs of a range of audio recording projects, from a very basic short live recording to more elaborate, multi-track projects that combine audio from a variety of sources.

To download Audacity, visit http://www.audacityteam.org/download

Bring your own laptop or use one of the desktops in the Digital Studio. Please bring earbuds or headphones to use during the workshop.

  1. Introduction to Audacity
    1. Installing the software
    2. Introduction to basic tools
    3. Practicing basic tools
      1. Record, Open, Zoom in, Zoom Out
      2. Select & Delete sections, Time shift
      3. Envelope tool
  1. Editing Audio Tracks
    1. Adjust Pitch, Speed, Tempo
    2. Fade In, Fade Out
    3. Reverse
  1. Effects for Recordings
    1. Noise Reduction
    2. Amplify
    3. Limiter
    4. Reverb
    5. Normalization & Equalization
    6. Compressor
  1. Exporting

  2. Import previously saved recordings
  3. Edit the recordings:
    1. Noise Reduction& Normalization
    2. Track Overlapping
    3. Adjust Amplification

Sound Effect Track:

  1. Import sound effect track
  2. Edit track
    1. Trimming
    2. Fade In, Fade Out
  3. Adjust Amplification

Music Track:

  1. Finding Royalty free music
  2. Download music track
  3. Edit track
    1. Trimming and Merging music track
    2. Fade In, Fade Out
  4. Adjust Amplification
