Checklist of best practices – how to be successful

  1. Check out the camera from Technology Services
  2. Check the camera battery and the SD card
  3. Connect the camera to either the selfie stick/small tripod or expandable tripod

Taking photos or videos without a smartphone

Only 3 buttons on camera: 00:33

  • Power
    • long press to power on – lights appear on front and tone sounds
    • short press the power button to switch between camera and video modes (see indicator light)
  • Wi-Fi (short press to turn on)
  • Shutter/Record (red circle)
    • Press to either shutter for camera or record for video (press again to stop recording)

Shooting with a smartphone

Advantages 04:15

  1. Smartphone acts like a remote control
  2. Using a tripod instead of holding the camera and capturing you and/or your hand
  3. Controls: shutter speed, ISO, white balance

To pair the camera with your smartphone

  1. On camera, short press the Wi-Fi button
  2. On phone, go to Wi-Fi settings and select QJXJ-011723. Enter password 12345678
  3. On phone, launch Mi Sphere app, tap the camera icon to connect

Using the smartphone app to capture images and video

See live preview fully stitched. Buttons for

  • gallery
  • shutter (tap to capture or record)
  • mode (switch photo to video) 05:18

In Photo mode:

  • Timer (delay taking photo for 3 – 10 seconds)
  • Intervalometer (time lapse capture every .5 – 3 seconds)
  • Bracketing

Settings (exposure time up to 32 seconds)

How to shoot video with the app 09:18

  1. Press mode button in app to switch to video mode.
  2. See shutter is red circle.
  3. Tap to record.

In Video mode:

  • Short video (preset 10, 20, 30 seconds)
  • Time-lapse (.5 – 60 seconds)
  • Slow-motion

Using the smartphone app to view and share photos

Tap gallery icon, see tabs for Camera (on memory card in camera) and Local (saved in App) 10:21

Camera tab (for photos on the camera’s SD card)

  • Tap on photo for full screen view
  • Options: download to the phone, mirror ball (cycle through various preview styles), screenshot, More…
    • Phone gyroscope (enable for image to automatically move with phone’s movement)
    • VR mode (One screen to two to enable cardboard viewer)
    • Delete
  • Tap Download to transfer photo from the camera’s SD card to the app

Local tab (for photos that have been downloaded from the Camera tab)

  • Tap on photo for full screen view
  • Options: edit the photo, mirror ball (cycle through various preview styles), screenshot, More…
    • Under Edit: filters, various views (Little Planet, Flat, Pano)
  • To save to your phone’s Camera Roll: Tap Select button (upper right), tap photo/video to select, tap Export (bottom)

Do not use this Share icon to share to social media sites. If you share using Xiaomi app, your photo will be shared to Xiaomi’s website and viewers will see a URL.

For direct sharing, go to the social media app (Facebook app) and post a photo from your camera roll. It will be recognized as 360.

Using the smartphone app to view and share videos

  • Tap on video for full screen view 13:42
  • Video starts playing (tap pause)
  • Options:
    • Edit: cut, filters, various views (Little Planet, Flat, Pano)
    • Record: (mute, flash) Screen recording feature (overcapture effect)lets you record the screen while playing back the video in either tiny planet view or spherical view. The result is a static 16:9 video that you can save as a separate file.
    • Export to phone… (will stitch the video and export to your camera roll or gallery on your phone)
    • Mirror ball (cycle through various preview styles)
    • Screenshot
    • More…
      • Phone gyroscope (enable for image to automatically move with phone’s movement)
      • VR mode (switch one screen to two to enable cardboard viewer)
      • Content info (meta data)
      • Delete
  • To save to your phone’s Camera Roll from Local tab: Tap Select button (upper right), tap thumbnail photo/video to select, tap Export (bottom)

To Share: go to the YouTube app and upload. Video should be automatically stabilized.

Troubleshooting

If your phone can’t stitch at full resolution [looking at video, go to Edit, Save (upper right), error – choose to stitch at lower resolution] Consider lowering resolution when capturing video on your phone – 2304×1152 18:56

(Android) How to download faster if you have large videos or many videos (only for videos not photos), connect a USB type C MicroSD reader to your phone to import directly from SD card. 21:47
