Purpose

The Educational Technology Faculty Fellows Program is a unique experience for any member of the campus community whose continuing contract has a teaching component. The goals of the program are to increase the number of faculty taking advantage of technologies in their teaching and scholarship, to familiarize faculty with tools and project types with which Educational Technology can help, and to help faculty learn how to assess technology projects.

History

Educational Technology has offered the Faculty Fellows program since 2009 as a way for faculty to develop their technology literacy and to explore ways to incorporate technology into their courses. In that time over 50 faculty members (see list below) have taken advantage of the program, some doing so multiple times. Typically, participants would learn about the core technologies available to support their teaching (Moodle, WordPress, Office 365) and be introduced to emerging technologies to consider exploring in their courses or research (3D printing, Virtual Reality, Scalar) in a week-long series of workshops and discussions. As more faculty have participated and shared their experiences with their departments, there seems to be less of a need for Faculty Fellows as it is currently offered.

2019-2020 Details

Format: Beginning with this cohort of Faculty Fellows, we will be changing the format to a more focused and personal model. Individuals selected as one of five Faculty Fellows this year will work one-on-one with members of the Educational Technology staff to explore, over the course of the academic year, technologies or practices they would like to incorporate into their teaching or research.

Topics: This year we are particularly interested in proposals seeking to improve accessibility of course materials and assignments, to explore 360 video, VR, or AR’s applications to education, to try gamification in course design, or implement student agency and active learning strategies.

Expectations: Participants will be expected to work with Educational Technology staff over the course of the Academic Year through monthly or bi-monthly meetings, to participate in a kick-off luncheon in late August/early September, and to share their work with their colleagues at the final Teaching Matters of the Academic Year.

Apply

Members of the campus community whose continuing contract has a teaching component are invited to submit a proposal through our submission form http://bit.ly/faculty-fellows-proposals before June 30. Decisions will be made and individuals notified by July 15. Successful applicants will have access to a $1,000 research account and will begin working with Educational Technology staff in August or as their schedule allows.
